End of Year Giving Tips

AS the year comes to a close, many of you are preparing to make your year end gift!

To make it easier for you during the University's official winter break, we offer these end of year giving tips.

 

Direct Mail - Make checks payable to NC State Natural Resources Foundation, Inc and specify how your donation is to be used in the memo line or with an attached note. Mail to Natural Resources Foundation,  Box 7474, Raleigh, NC 27695, to arrive by December 23, 2011.  We cannot guarantee gifts delivered after this date will be processed in 2011.

                                                                                         

Credit Card Gifts - It is important for you to know that the date of your credit card gift is the date the gift is processed by your financial institution (not when received or processed by us).  Therefore, it must be processed on or before 11:59pm on the lat day of the year to be treated as a deduction in this calendar year.  This happens instantly - and is receipted immediately - when processed through the Natural Resources online donation site www.cnr.ncsu.edu/giveonline

 

 If you are making credit card gifts via mail, please post them by December 15 so they will arrive in our offices by December 23.  Otherwise, they may not be processed until 2012.  It is illegal for us to backdate gifts.

 Staff will be on call during the holiday to speak with you if you prefer to give via phone.  Credit card gifts will be processed by our staff through 5 p.m. EST on December 31, 2011.  The telephone number for phoning in these gifts is 919.515.7827.

 

Gifts of Securities - Please call the Office of Planned Giving at 919.515.5106 or Steve Watt at 919.515.9076 to discuss the transfer procedures.

 The securities must be received in one of our brokerage accounts with Wells Fargo Advisors by December 31, 2011 in order to be deductible in 2011.

We will need the following information when they transfer securities:

o    Donor Name

o    Security Name

o    Number of Shares (or type of security for others)

o    Expected Date of Transfer

o    Transferring Brokerage Firm

o    Name of Fund Receiving Gift

 

If you are delivering actual stock certificates, please deliver by December 15 so all of the paperwork and transactions can take place by December 31, 2011.  It is important that we have the opportunity to secure the correct signatures and Medallion Signature Guarantees on the necessary documents to complete these transactions.

 

Donor Assistance - During the official holiday break, we will have two methods available to assist donors should they need help processing a credit card gift, transferring securities, or to assist with any other questions:

         

The Office of Planned Giving will be working each morning (Dec 27-30) and will be available at 919.515.5106 or919.515.9076 for Steve Watt.  Steve Watt's mobile phone number is a backup as well at 919.376.8074.

 
 Advancement Services staff members will be on site during normal business hours (8am-5pm EST) December 26-31, 2010.  Additionally, Advancement Services Help Desk will continuously check for messages left at919.515.7827 and will assist donors as needed.
