Recorded Webinars on the Internet Mapping Tools for Landowners, County Agents, and Natural Resource Professionals

Ever want to learn how to map your property on Google Earth?  Ever wonder how to use the interactive tax maps offered online by your county tax office?  Ever want to get soils information customized for your property along with management options? Well…. now you can start!

Over the past 6 months I have been conducting numerous webinars on the use of easy, powerful, and FREE internet mapping applications useful for landowners, Extension Agents, and Natural Resource Professionals.  These include the use of Google Earth, Google Maps, Interactive County GIS websites, and NRCS’s Web Soil Survey.  I thought I would make these available to WOU friends.  Below is a description of each webinar and a link.

Online Mapping Tools for County Agents: The audience was Cooperative Extension Agents but the material is applicable to any with land mapping and management needs.

1) Making Google Earth Work for Land Management, Dec 2, 2010: 1 hour.  Basic overview of Google Earth navigation and map development.  Concepts of mapping project development and data layer creation for small mapping projects such as private land holdings and management plans.

2) Explorations with County GIS Websites: Dec 9, 2010. 1 hour.  How to effectively use your county’s interactive mapping website to look up parcels, obtain tax information about them, print them out, and screen capture the image for use in Google Earth.

3) Explorations with NRCS Web Soil Survey, Dec 17, 2010. 1 Hour. Introduction to the Natural Resource Conservation Service’s powerful web-based application, the Web Soil Survey (WSS).  Learn how to develop an area of interest (your property), create a soils map for it, and tailor a custom soil report for the property.  A must for any with land management needs.

Forestry Webinar Portal: Over 80 archived webinars (more added each month), each 1 hour long, covering diverse forestry issues.  Take some time at lunch and learn some great information about taxation issues, carbon markets, and private landowner issues.

NCSU Forestry and Environmental Outreach Program (FEOP): FEOP’s Mission: In cooperation with, or support from, public and private organizations, FEOP will develop and facilitate conferences, design and deliver accredited continuing education workshops, seminars, and short courses, and develop supporting educational and intellectual properties.   FEOP will deliver timely, relevant, and unbiased information to natural resource professionals, landowners, and other stakeholders.  FEOP will provide organized forums for discussion and exchange of information, ideas, and perspectives on sustainable natural resource management and stewardship.
