Ghana - Landscapes in EcoTourism

The Landscapes in Ecotourism program provides a challenging academic experience that focuses on ecotourism, preservation of cultural resources, community development and the Ghanaian tourism system.We will attend seminars at the Department of Tourism and Geography at the University of Cape Coast located a short drive from Kakum National Forest, the fishing village of Elmina, and historical Cape Coast Castle.The course will tour the southern regions of the country, offering rich first-hand experiences with the many settings, traditions, and people of Ghana.

Rome Study Tour - Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences

The Italian Fisheries and Wildlife study abroad program is sponsored by the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources and is designed for students interested in natural resources and wildlife and fisheries management. In Italy, students will explore Natural Resource Management and Conservation in Italy, Italian National Parks, Land use and land use change in Italy, the history of wildlife management in Italy, Italian history and culture, and will be immersed in language emersion experiences. The classes, excursions, and field trips offered will encourage students to learn more about one of the oldest country and cultures in Europe.

New Zealand - Sustaining Human Societies & the Natural Environment

This 3.5-week study abroad program will examine the natural (and related social) history and resource conservation of New Zealand's South Island. New Zealand's isolation, after its separation from the ancient Gondwanaland millions of years ago, has left this island nation with a unique natural heritage. The plants and animals that have evolved here are unknown elsewhere in the world. Our program will focus on topics related to sustainable development (sustaining human societies and the natural environment) through educational travel, field trips, active participation, lecture presentations and seminars, and coursework exercises. The goal of this course is using the New Zealand case to integrate the different perspectives of diverse natural, biological, and social science disciplines to improve understanding of relationships between human societies and the natural environment.
South Africa - Ecosystem Services

In this course, students will learn about the provision and sustainability of many ecosystem services in South Africa, including employment creation through biodiversity conservation, wood and fiber production, and ecotourism. Human demands on ecosystems are stressed, with many aspects of earth, life, and social sciences considered.

International Sustainable Use of Natural Resources in Turkey

This course will visit sites around Istanbul, Trabzon and Antalya, Turkey. Students will examine effects of land and resource management through ages of cultural change, observe the effects of terrain on climate, soils, vegetation and faunal habitat types, consider global economic and social impacts on resource sustainability, and interact with Swedish and Purdue University students and faculty in a course that crosses cultural and disciplinary boundaries.
