CNR celebrates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with displays in Biltmore's Atrium along with a food, music and dance festival on the 25th.

September 2005

International Tea: CNR sponsors its first International Tea, where students, staff, and faculty share teas and foods from around the world.  Friday, September 16 from 2pm to 4pm in Biltmore's lobby and lounge.

Enriching the Professional Harvest: Cultivating a Professional Community To Address the Growing Importance of Natural Resources and the Environment For A Diverse Population.  September 22 and 23, 2005 at The Holiday Inn, Brownstone Hotel.

October 2005

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration: CNR celebrates Hispanic Culture through music and dance performances, poster displays, and food!  Wednesday, October 5 at 3pm in Biltmore's lobby.  La Raza, NC State's own Latin Dance Team, will be performing for us.

Everyone Welcome Here Week: NC State's 3rd Annual EWH Week celebrating and welcoming the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and ally community.  For a schedule of events, go to http://www.ncsu.edu/ewh/CNR will host a diversity dialogue on Thursday, October 13 at 12:30pm in the Bragaw Activity Room.

First Annual CNR Multi-Cultural Celebration: Thursday, November 10, from 11am to 3pm, in the lobby of Biltmore, we will be celebrating the many cultures that make up our CNR family with food, music, performances, clothing, demonstrations and more.

We hope that you will attend, even better....come share your culture! Whether you are from across the globe, across the country, across the state, or across town, we want to know something about you or a culture that interests you.

- February 7th, 7pm, Jordan 1132.  Will show a screening of Black Is, Black Ain't, by Marlon Riggs. Discussion to follow, refreshments provided.

-February 21, 2pm – 4:30pm, Biltmore 2010

Join CNR in celebration of Black History Month with speaker Dr. James Johnson of UNC-Chapel Hill, “People and Jobs on the Move: Implications for Higher Education.”  Reception with live music, cultural foods, and the unveiling of CNR's updated timeline, "Seeing into the Future by Looking Through Our Past."

March 2006

-March 22, 3:30pm – 5pm, Biltmore 2010 Karla Henderson spoke on “Over the River and Through the Woods: Women as Leaders in Natural Resources.  Reception with musical presentation, viewing of "The Women of CNR" display and refreshments followed.

- Movie Night with Women’s Center: March 23, 6pm – 9pm, Talley Women’s Center.  Screening of A Way Home, a documentary by Shakti Butler. Pizza and drinks were served.

-March 30 and 31: "The Vagina Monologues" a play by Eve Ensler, directed by CNR's own Celeste Richie and with CNR students in the cast. 

Proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales went to Interact of Wake County (local rape crisis and domestic violence agency), the NC State Women's Center/Molly Hays Glander Rape and Sexual Assault Response Line (24-hour hotline), and this year's V-Day Spotlight: "Comfort Women" (women forced into sexual services for Japanese troops during WWII).

LGBT Legislative Update: April 4, 12-1pm, Brown Room, Talley Student Center.  Please join us for this informational forum on upcoming legislation in North Carolina regarding Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender concerns.  Facilitated by Ian Palmquist, Executive Director of Equality NC.  Click here for more information.

Building Bridges, Strengthening leadership for diverse communities: April 12, 9am-4:30pm, Walnut Room, Talley Student Center. This workshop teaches conflict resolution skills; effective listening; how to manage dialogue across group lines and a rationale for creating a welcoming workplace that becomes everyone's responsibility.  Register here for this and other workshops offered by The Office of Equal Opportunity.

Arabian Nights, MENASA: April 14, 6-8pm, Harris Field.  This program will showcase Middle Eastern and North African music, dance, skits, and spoken word.  The program is free, and food will be provided for a small charge.

Day of Silence: April 18. This annual event is held to commemorate and protest anti-LGBT bullying, harassment and discrimination in schools. Students and teachers nationwide will observe the day in silence to echo the silence that LGBT and ally students face everyday. In it's 11th year, the Day of Silence is one of the largest student-led actions in the country. Click here for more information.

Latino Visitation Day: April 20.  This annual event invites Latino and Hispanic students to NCSU's campus and our college to visit with faculty, staff, and current students.  If you are interested in participating or learning more, contact Thomas Easley at Thomas_Easley@ncsu.edu.

EnvironMentors Science Fair: May 10, 2-5pm, Biltmore Lobby.  Join us as our first class of EnvironMentor students presents their work, along with their faculty mentors.  This exciting program pairs highschool students with research mentors in the environmental field to get hands-on experience in our field.  For more information, contact Thomas Easley at Thomas_Easley@ncsu.edu.

NCSU announces new LGBT Center on campus

NCSU is excited to announce plans for a new LGBT center in Talley Student Center.  This center will provide services for the LGBT campus community as well as for allies and all NCSU students, staff, and faculty through programming, resources, and other services.
