Description
Interested in becoming a leader for a more equitable, sustainable world? Interested in sustainable energy, clean water, and/or community development?
blueEnergy’s Service Learning Internship Program is a unique opportunity to apply classroom and theoretical work knowledge to real-world situations. Have the experience of a lifetime while participating in blueEnergy’s development work on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua!
blueEnergy is a non-profit organization that connects isolated communities to clean water, energy, and other basic services to give people the opportunity to improve their lives. We are currently focused on the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, where over 75% of the population does not have access to electricity and clean water. Utilizing a community-based project design model, we work directly with our beneficiaries to create appropriate solutions. Intern with blueEnergy and experience this development model hands-on!
The Service Learning Internship Program is designed for individuals interested in gaining hands-on implementation experience in at least one of the following program areas: water, energy, and community development. Individual work plans are developed by blueEnergy’s Nicaraguan project managers so that each intern has the opportunity to work on a project and develop skills within his/her area of interest. Interns are also encouraged and provided the necessary support to conduct research on areas of their interest and the interests of blueEnergy’s beneficiaries.
Examples of internship opportunities (specific opportunities will depend on current needs in Nicaragua and each individual’s skills):
ï‚· Clean Water Initiatives: construction and implementation of water filter and well drilling technologies
ï‚· Solar Latrines: construction, implementation, and public sensitization around technology
ï‚· Improved Cook Stoves: distribution and public sensitization around technology
ï‚· Community Solar Installations
ï‚· Community Education Initiative: develop and oversee educational programs on renewable energy, hygiene and sanitation, and environmental conservation practices
ï‚· Small-scale Wind Turbine Research and Development
