The Eldorado National Forest is filling a permanent, full-time Fuels Management Specialist position. This position is located at the Supervisors Officer in Placerville, CA.

MAJOR DUTIES

Participates in fuels management program operations, such as technical or analytical work involving wildland fire suppression and prescribed burning operations. Performs tasks dealing with fire management projects such as hazard fuel reduction projects, wildlife habitat improvement or enhancement, watershed management, pre-commercial thinning, timber sales, stand conversions, and range improvement.

Responsible for budget planning.

Work involves the gathering and compiling of information and/or development of databases for use in natural resource management activities. Summarizes data, makes calculations, and presents preliminary statistical analysis to the appropriate scientist.

Provides advice and assistance on fire and aviation management policies and practices. Institutes or recommends changes in operating procedures or programs to increase effectiveness or correct practices in violation of established regulations or procedures.

Identifies and resolves problems related to agency programs or services.

The incumbent participates in the planning, development, and/or implementation of training sessions or programs on natural resources or related subjects.

Develops new or proposed plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines and makes recommendations on the need for new or modified policies regarding fire and aviation management programs and policies.
