Greenways for Wildlife

For the past five years, members of NC State’s Conservation & Restoration area have been working with greenway planners for the cities of Raleigh and Cary to examine relevant issues about the design of urban and suburban greenways and the subsequent effect of decisions on wildlife populations.

The goal of this project is to provide urban and landscape planners with the facts they need to successfully incorporate the needs of wildlife into greenway planning and design.

Greenways for Wildlife addresses this need by helping to establish wildlife-friendly design guidelines for greenways in the language of landscape and urban planners. For example, NC State faculty and students recently developed recommendations based on how forest corridor width, adjacent development intensity and other factors can be managed to attract a variety of wildlife.

Promo Area

Studenst involved in Greenways for Wildlife help urban landscape planners incorporate the needs of wildlife into greenway planning and design by developing recommendations on how forest corridor width, adjacent development intensity, and other factors can be managed to attract a variety of wildlife.
