Vision
FER Home : Environmental Impact Assessment : Vision
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources (FER) intends to continue following a team-based, multidisciplinary approach to environmental impact assessment that involves frequent participation in research initiatives involving private and public sector partners.
Our other goals will emphasize the same combination of academic excellence and practical experience:
- At the undergraduate level, we will continue providing our students with a rigorous grounding in all of the environmental sciences needed to properly assess planning, development and land use practices.
- At the graduate level, we hope to continue evolving our academic program, eventually becoming a service course open to all students within the College of Natural Resources as well as other areas of the University.
- As new technologies expand our ability to measure the impact of specific practices on the environment, we will be at the forefront of analyzing and applying these techniques to real world situations, then passing on what we have learned to professionals on the job or still in school.
- We will continue to apply both an industry and environmental perspective to the analysis of the connection between human actions and the impact on our planet’s natural resources — gradually building our institutional knowledge to the point where it is a globally-recognized source of timely and ethical data on development, land management and regulatory practices from a broad-based, yet practical, environmental perspective.
