In Environmental Technology Laboratory III, students learn how to assess and respond to environmental hazards caused by hazardous materials releases. Students get firsthand experience under complex, simulated scenarios, giving them the confidence they will need in a real emergency.
A passing grade in this class automatically prepares you for certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
Our environmental technology professionals and students participate in a number of University- and FER-sponsored extension programs as well as outreach initiatives conducted by various state agencies.
These activities are often conducted as a part of a more broad-based programs, reflecting our multi-disciplinary approach to nature resource management.
Environmental technology’s extension and outreach activities tend to focus on specific technologies and methods, understanding environmental regulations or the proper handling of hazardous materials. These efforts keep industry professionals up-to-date on new developments in the field while educating landowners and other private citizens on how to monitor and measure the health of their natural resources.
