FER’s Environmental Technology students and faculty keep track of new industry developments and help further progress in their profession by participating in organizations devoted to different aspects of environmental technology.

The Student Organization for Sustainability (SOS) seeks to promote on-campus awareness of environmental issues, facilitates the exchange of environmental information, encourages student participation in environmental activities and offers career advice and opportunities.

The NCSU Student Chapter of AWRA is the University's arm of the American Water Resources Association, a non-profit professional association dedicated to the advancement of men and women in water resources management, research and education.

The North America Hazardous Materials Management Association (NAHMMA) is a professional organization dedicated to pollution prevention and reducing the hazardous constituents entering municipal waste streams from sources that may be exempt from regulation.

The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) International is a non-profit organization that includes over 2,000 individuals and organizational members actively engaged in ecologically-sensitive repair and management of ecosystems.

The National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP) provides a forum for ideas, career advice and sharing experiences in natural resources; advocates interdisciplinary environmental education and research; promotes campus awareness of environmental issues; and sponsors lectures, seminars and field activities.


The Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) is a community of scientists, conservationists, consultants, federal, state and local wetland managers plus environmentalist citizens. SWS publishes the top journal in its field; sponsors annual meetings and local chapter activities; advocates sound wetland science and policy in Washington, D.C.; and sponsors a variety of other activities and awards.
