As a land grant institution receiving public funding, NC State is charged with educating communities and people across North Carolina. NC State’s Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences program fulfills this mission by sponsoring a number of extension programs that provide the public with information on the management of fish and wildlife resources.

Much of our nationally-recognized research is conducted through the NC Agricultural Research Service, We also work on educational endeavors with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission's Division of Inland Fisheries and the Division of Wildlife Management as well as the NC Division of Marine Fisheries, while several Fisheries & Wildlife Sciences faculty hold appointments as extension specialists in the NC Cooperative Extension Service

Our extension and outreach efforts cover such topics as species identification and care, wildlife damage control, environmental education, wildlife habitat preservation, understanding endangered species, backyard wildlife, fisheries and pond management, aquaculture and more.
