The Masters of Natural Resource is a non-thesis professional degree program that allows graduate students to pursue advanced topics within the area of natural resources. It is administered by FER, although other departments at NC State may be a part of your degree program. No minor is required.
Past students pursuing a Masters of Natural Resources (MNR) degree have explored a variety of advanced problems involving the management of natural resources, with an emphasis on pubic policy or identifying applied, management-oriented solutions to natural resource challenges. Specific topics pursued have included such specialty areas as:
- Environmental impact assessment and analysis,
- International resources,
- Spatial information systems,
- Natural resource policy,
- Ecology and restoration of forested ecosystems,
- Wildlife habitat management, and
- Interdisciplinary studies involving other NC State departments.
After obtaining their masters, many students have gone to work in the public arena or accepted positions with public and private environmental agencies. Others have enjoyed academic or field careers or continued their studies.
