The world is changing rapidly and getting smaller and more interconnected. These trends are evident in the interactions of societies and economies as well as in natural resources. Sustainable development and natural resources management ideas now travel across continents as fast as jet planes. Challenges are there, too: global competition for product markets is increasing technological sophistication abroad among our students’ future workplace competitors, and exotic pests are being accidentally introduced to our shores through trading activities only to threaten our native ecosystems.
All of these are good reasons why FER has become more and more active globally over the years. In fact, we believe that engaging the world in our teaching research and outreach activities is critical to achieving our mission. Students gain new and valuable perspective from experiences with their peers in other places and by exploring natural resources issues around the world. To this end, we sponsor annual overseas courses and trips and have formal exchange agreements with organizations in Sweden and Chile. Our faculty and graduate students also maintain ties with colleagues from universities in other countries and work together with scientists across the globe developing and implementing innovative solutions to a host of natural resources problems.
This section describes FER's international activities and introduces some of the people helping to lead them. See the links at left for what you will find in this section.
