In the years ahead, The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources intends to continue pursuing its current long-term natural resources economics and policy initiatives while increasing its national profile in the field of policy, particuarly in the study of decision-making processes.
Our goal is continue to provide sound advice and solid science to support good governance at the local and state levels. We will also be looking at ways to solidify our stature as a resource at the national level in terms of providing substantive leadership in policy and decision making within the natural resources arena.
We will likely be focusing our economics and policy work on sustainable forest management, forest certification, international nontimber products, water and wetlands regulations plus global ecosystems.
We expect that our strong ties to Latin America will continue to play an important role in our research and field focus over the years ahead.
