Vision
FER Home : Forest Ecology & Management : Vision
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources intends to maintain its leadership in the field of forest ecology and management and strengthen its international reputation as an innovator in the understanding and management of forest ecocosystems.
We will do this by continuing to:
- Increase public awareness of the role forests play in our natural and social environments.
- Advocate sustainable forest management methods.
- Explore new advances in the field using real world settings and the complementing resources of both private and public partners.
- Disseminate state-of-the-art information on the biology, management and uses of forest resources.
- Successfully migrate useful techniques and technologies from industrial uses to the private sector — benefiting land owners, the general public, young people and local communities.
- Serve as a link between employers and potential employees.
- Serve as a link between end users of research and mutlidisciplinary teams of researchers.
Some of our specific future goals include a desire to be a leading university in the study of intensive pine horticulture and management, to increase our activities in the field of quality hardwood management and to further our leadership in the area of biotechnology even more in the years ahead.
