If you work in forestry, fisheries, wildlife, environmental sciences or another natural resources area, the Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources (FER) offers certification programs and other opportunities for you to fulfill your educational or professional needs.
Since its inception, FER has worked hand-in-hand with industry professionals, providing them with the information and services they need to keep current on developments in their field or to perform their jobs more effectively.
As an international center for research and field activities, we can serve as a window onto new developments in a variety of specific forestry and natural resource sub-specialties. Other professional resources we offer include:
Continuing education programs that provide you with opportunities to earn continuing education credits while enhancing your career potential.
Industrial co-operative programs that let you work directly with other industry and academic partners on topical issues of importance in your field. Currently, these programs focus on such areas as tree improvement, forest nutrition, international tree conservation, biotechnology, forest management and more.
Extension Programs that cover a wide variety of forestry and environmental topics. We offer programs that educate on everything from aquaculture to forestry, hydrology, wildlife management and much more. For example:
Our Forestry & Environmental Outreach Program offers a variety of courses, workshops, conferences and seminars pertaining to forestry and natural resource professionals on both a non-credit and continuing education basis.
Extension Forestry provides technical assistance, collates and disseminates research results and offers many other useful resources for professionals involved in forestry.
Wildlife Extension provides information on wildlife management, enhancement and damage control plus fisheries and aquatics advice.
Research conducted by our faculty and students is often available to professionals, providing you with a way to review the latest innovations in forestry or natural resources.
