UNIT GENERATION

METHODS OF GENERATING UNITS

The GRC requires completion of a minimum of 3 units in each of the 4 program areas and a total of 16 units. Units will be recorded only as whole units. Units will not be given for duplicate activities.

• 1 formal course = 8 units (2 units will be allocated to each program unit)

• Seminar sponsored by GRC = 1 unit

• 8-hour formal workshop sponsored by GRC = 2 units

• 4-hour formal workshop sponsored by GRC = 1 unit

• Other seminars, workshops and courses not sponsored by GRC must be approved by the student’s graduate administrator or GRC committee (units may vary)

• 20 hours of supervised work on research activity pre-approved by graduate administrator or GRC committee = 1 unit

• Poster presentation of research at a national or regional professional conference which has been pre-approved by the graduate administrator or GRC committee = 1 unit

• Presentation of research at a national or regional professional conference which has been pre-approved by the graduate administrator or GRC committee = 2 units

• Acceptance of research article as first or second author in a journal which has been approved by the graduate administrator or GRC committee = 2 units
Any past research activity completed while enrolled in NCSU graduate program will be reviewed by graduate administrator or GRC committee and units will be given on a consistent basis.
