How To Apply

Freshman Admission            APPLY ON-LINE

  • Take the most rigorous courses your school offers such as Honors Physics, AP Chemistry, or AP Biology.
  • Do well in your courses. NC State places heavy emphasis on the kind of courses you take in high school and how well you do (GPA).
  • Apply early.

Transfer Admission              APPLY ON-LINE

  • Take courses that relate to your desired major at NC State.
  • Do well in your courses.
  • Apply to NC State by the deadlines.


Competitive applicants for transfer admission will have the following 30 hours of transferable credits and academic credentials:

  • English Composition
  • College Algebra or pre-calculus (Parks, Recreation & Tourism majors may have any college level Math)
  • GPA requirements:

Environmental Science, Watershed Hydrology: 3.0+

Environmental Technology: 2.5+

Parks, Recreation & Tourism: 2.7+

Professional Golf Management: 2.5+

Other programs: 2.1+

For the Paper Science & Engineering Major, applicants will have the following 30 hours of transferable credits and academic credentials:

  • English Composition (ENG 111)
  • Second level English Composition (ENG 112)
  • Chemistry with lab (CH 101 & 102)
  • Calculus I (MA 141)
  • Calculus II (MA 241)
  • 2.5+ GPA in the last two Calculus or higher level mathematics courses
  • Calculus-based Physics (PY 205)
  • Overall GPA of 3.0+ (will review if GPA is between 2.5-2.9)
