Professional Golf Management

Andy graduated from Millersville University in Lancaster, Pa with a BS in Economics and a minor in Business Administration.  After graduation, he assumed an Assistant Golf Professional position at Brookside Country Club in Allentown, PA for three years.  Upon leaving Brookside he became the First Assistant Golf Professional at MacGregor Downs Country  Club in Cary, NC.  During this time Andy earned his Class “A” PGA Membership. In 2003 Andy was promoted to Head Golf Professional at MacGregor Downs Country Club where he remained until August of 2007.  What Andy brings to the PGM program is the hands on experience of daily golf business operations including:  running the day to day business, teaching  the game of golf to all skill levels, running tournaments, customer relations, merchandising and many other items required for  today’s golf professional.

Arthur Bruneau, Ph.D.

Professor, Turfgrass Management
Department of Crop Science, NC State University

Dr. Bruneau received his B.S. and M. S. degrees in Agronomy from the University of Rhode Island. He received his Ph.D. in Horticulture from the University of Nebraska. Prior to being appointed Turfgrass Extension Specialist at NCSU, Dr. Bruneau was employed by the O.M. Scott & Sons Co. in Marysville, Ohio. Dr. Bruneau currently has a teaching and research appointment. He oversees the turfgrass cultivar testing program to include the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials. Dr. Bruneau currently teaches a turfgrass management course offered in the Professional Golf Management program. He has taught most of the turfgrass courses in the Agricultural Institute. Susan Colby

Professional Golf Management Program

Susan is a graduate of NC State University with degrees in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management and Speech Communication. After a successful career as a Senior Program Director – Health & Fitness area - for the YMCA of the USA she returned to NC State and is now using both degrees as assistant in the PGM program and as editor of the Parks, Recreation & Tourism Management Alumni & Friends Newsletter and the new PGM Links electronic newsletter.


Penny Pritchard
Adjunct Professor
Food & Beverage Management

Penny teaches the Food and Beverage Management course at NC State University and is the department head of Wake Technical Community College's Culinary Technology and Hotel & Restaurant Management programs. Prichard landed the role at Wake Tech after a career in the hospitality industry, including serving as Director of Dining Services for SAS Institute for almost nine years. She has also owned and operated Research Triangle Park (NC) restaurants, Penny's and Penny's Too!. In addition to her MBA from Meredith College, Prichard holds a M.Ed. in Business and Marketing Education from North Carolina State University. At Wake Tech, Prichard has added certificate programs and is working to establish national and international certifications for all of the Wake Tech hospitality programs.


Richard Mandell
Adjunct Professor
Golf Course Architecture

Richard is a Golf Course Architect; Landscape Architect; Land Planner; conducts Feasibility Studies; Construction Management; Site Analysis; Environmental Consulting; and Golf Course Renovation. Richard brings his historical perspective of golf course design as well as his professional experience working with Dan Maples Design and Denis Griffiths & Associates to Richard Mandell Golf Architecture. Thoughtful creativity and an ability to create pleasing features that blend with the lay of the land help define his design style. Richard has worked on a variety of golf course projects from renovation projects such as Grandfather Mountain and the exclusive Milbrook Club in Greenwich, Connecticut to foreign projects such as Thai Country Club and domestic layouts such as The Easton Club. Richard Mandell has been in the golf course architecture business for twelve years. His office is based in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He currently has projects underway in New York, Maryland, and North Carolina. For the past six years, he has taught a class on golf course architecture at North Carolina State University.


Robb Wade, Ph.D.

Ph.D., 1993 Ohio University

Extensive background in college athletic administration. Dr. Wade has been the Director of Ticket Operations at NC State as well as at Ohio University. He has experience with a variety of national tournaments and events including NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball, NIT Pre-Season and Post-Season Basketball, Gator Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, MicronPC.com Bowl, Jimmy V Women's Classic and Special Olympics World Games. Dr. Wade has instructed graduate classes in Sports Administration and Facility Management at the premier program in the country, Ohio University. While at Ohio University, he managed the university golf course, ice skating arena and stadium tower complex. He also has experience in sport facility management, sport marketing and event management. He has coached at the local minor hockey and collegiate levels. He has worked as a volunteer at the Men's US Open and Women's US Open Golf Tournaments.

In addition to his position as the Director of the Professional Golf Management program, Dr. Wade has also served on numerous graduate committees.
