1. How do I apply to NC State and the PGA Golf Managment program and when should I apply?
Complete the NC State University Online Application form. Mail your letter of recommendation and your GHIN scores to the PGA Golf Management office. Application information and PGA Golf Management contact information
2. Do PGM faculty and staff help me find places to do my internships?
Yes. We have a list with approved agency applications in which you may review. We also encourage you to take responsibility and conduct some research on your own to come up with ideas of places in which you may be interested. The PGM Internship Coordinator, and other PGM faculty and staff members, will work with you to secure your position.
3. Are internships paid positions?
Yes. we will not recommed an unpaid position to you.
Wage amounts vary according to the facility and the extra benefits in which the facility provides. For example, a facility may pay $10/hr. and offer one meal/shift,
but not offer housing or staff clothing. Another facility may pay $8/hr., offer housing for a small monthly fee, provide staff clothing and one meal/shift.
4. Is housing provided during the internships?
Sometimes. Some places have housing for student interns for a small monthly fee. Others may not have housing onsite, but may work with facility members to provide housing. Facilities that do not offer housing usually work with students to assist in finding housing during their work experience. Students are usually housed together when more than one intern is working at a facility in order to reduce expenses.
5. Am I still a full-time student while working on my internship?
Yes. Students enroll in the cooperative education program for COP 100, COP 200 or COP 300 and pay a fee of $425.
6. Do all PGM students live together in the same residence hall?
The PGM faculty / staff do not require students to live in the same hall. Students may select the residence hall of their choice. Students may request to the PGM office to live with another PGM student at which time pairings will be made and a request sent to University Housing. There are NO GUARANTEES students will receive their requested residence hall or roommate.
7. Are first year students allowed to have a car on campus?
Yes, first year PGM students may apply for a parking permit. Due to the nature of the program and students needing to travel to various golf courses for play, practice, player development and service learning activities, University Transportation will grant parking permits to students who bring a vehicle to campus. Parking permits may not be issued in areas directly near residence halls. Only students residing in Avent Ferry Residence Hall will have close access to his / her vehicle. Other permits may be granted for parking lots on the outer fringes of campus. NC State University is mainly a pedestrian campus and parking permits issued for these areas is common.
