A Message from Dr. Douglas Wellman, PRTM Department Head
PRTM home : About Us : A Message from Dr. Douglas Wellman, PRTM Department Head

Welcome to the website for NC State’s Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management Department. We here at PRTM are proud to be a national leader and international partner in educating outstanding industry professionals and in promoting the many benefits of our field for people, communities and local economies.

Our mission is more important today than it has ever been before. In an information-heavy, technologically advanced world, it is all too easy for people to lose a sense of connection to their neighbors  and even to their own physical and mental health. PRTM is on the frontline of providing programs that bring people together — linking existing communities and creating new ones where none exist — and in promoting healthful activities that make people feel better about themselves so that they live longer and more productive lives. We are also contributing to the health of towns, regions and even entire countries through our tourism and recreational planning initiatives. I am so proud of our faculty and staff and of our may fine students for their contributions to the world around them as well as to our growing, vital industry.

The importance of our work to the world’s future can not be overstated. We have a lot of fun here at PRTM, but we also engage in serious scholarly activity, are pushing the envelope in adapting technology to our industry’s needs and are providing outreach services across the state and beyond to help communities capitalize on sustainable ways to promote their natural resources, develop recreational assets and serve their populations. We are an important part of sustaining a balanced world and are proud to play that part.   Enjoy this look into our activities, abilities and resources. Please feel free to contact us if you need any more information.

Sincerely,
Douglas Wellman, Ph.D
