         Additional Requirements:

        

        1.  Graduate Research Certification (GRC) completion.

        2.  Independent instruction of one undergraduate course.

        3.  Successful completion of a preliminary comprehensive examination (written and oral components),  a         

               dissertation, and a successful dissertation defense.

 

Administrative Notes:

  1. A declared minor is optional at the discretion of the committee and student.
  2. No pre-requisites will be listed on the Plan of Work (e.g. ST 507, ST 511)
  3. Teaching in College (EAC 786) may be included on the Plan of Work with permission of the student’s committee.
  4. A grade of “B-“ or better is required for all coursework included on the Plan of Work.
  5. Doctoral degrees require a minimum of 72 graduate credit hours beyond the Bachelor’s degree.  For a student who has a Master’s from a university other than NC State, a maximum of 18 hours of relevant graduate credit from the Master’s degree may be applied toward this minimum.  If a student completes a Master’s degree at NC State and continues for a doctoral degree without a break in time, up to 36 credit hours taken while in Master’s status may be used to meet this minimum.
  6. Students cannot take 400-level courses or lower as part of the credit-hour requirements.
  7. Students cannot transfer courses into a Ph.D. program (including PBS status courses).
