Each year, PRTM is awarded external grants and contracts that average over $800,000 — or nearly $(50,000) per faculty member annually. These funds are used in a variety of ways and often fund interdisciplinary projects that incorporate elements of many different PRTM disciplines as well as economics, behavioral studies, social sciences, information technology and other areas of study.
Scope of Activities
PRTM often conducts research in partnership with the National Parks and U.S. Forest Services, North Carolina State Parks, the N.C. Division of Travel & Tourism, many N.C. cities, towns and counties plus other departments at NC State, non-profit organizations and even private sector companies. A sample of recent research activities includes the application of computer technology to the development and operation of parks and recreation areas, an assessment of the impact of recreation development on the quality of life in rural communities, coastal zone development, innovative recreational programming for seniors and much more. Please review the links at left or individual Faculty bios for more information on specific research focus areas.
