PRTM’s tourism research focuses primarily on tourism marketing and sustainable economic/community development. A major college-funded initiative is currently under way to develop a regional tourism research center. Recent research projects in this area include:
- Community involvement in developing programming and support services for a major regional equine center.
- Rural North Carolina county tourism market segmentation.
- Community residents’ perceptions of tourism development in Belize.
- Entrepreneurism and rural tourism development.
- Community attitudes toward tourism development in Carriacou, Granada.
- Interpretive case studies.
- Visitor study for a city convention and visitor bureau.
- African-American heritage area product development.
Faculty conducting research in this area include Larry Gustke, Gene Brothers, Stacy Tomas, and Carol Kline.
