Study Abroad - New Zealand / Australia

The New Zealand trip uses the theme of sustainable development to explore the relationship between people and their natural environment. Five days will be spent in the garden city of Christchurch, followed by a nearly three week field study of the South Island, including Mount Cook, the wild West Coast, swimming with dolphins at Kaikoura, a guided kayak trip of Abel Tasman National Park, a guided hike on Fox Glacier, a sheep farm visit, a visit to a Maori marae, and a boat cruise on Milford Sound.
In Australia the program integrates field excursions, discussions, essays and reflections on challenges to protecting and conserving fragile environments while sustaining human societies. Participants can expect to read articles, write essays, complete on-site group projects and discuss experiences related to their time in the rainforest, the bush and at the Great Barrier Reef.
