The College of Natural Resources will award 10 undergraduate students $1,000 research scholarships in 2007. These scholarships are awarded based on competitive grants developed by the student in collaboration with a research mentor on the CNR faculty. The CNR Research Committee ranks proposals and announces awards. Students receiving undergraduate research scholarships are expected to complete the proposed research and give a presentation of the results in the N.C. State University Undergraduate Research Symposium in Spring 2007 or another similar venue later in the year or in Spring 2008.
Objective
The objective of the College of Natural Resources' Undergraduate Research Scholarship Program is to expand the education of undergraduate students by:
- providing a meaningful and complete research experience from the development of a proposal through the presentation of results,
- fostering relationships between undergraduate students and research faculty,
- teaching the importance of research in our daily lives and
- providing awareness of career opportunities in research.
Eligibility
Undergraduate students in all departments of the College of Natural Resources are eligible for the competition. Students are encouraged to seek out one or more CNR faculty member to serve as a mentor and to supervise the research project.
