On The Cutting Edge

When you pursue your graduate studies at NC State University’s Department of Wood & Paper Science (WPS), you are joining a community of research-oriented industry leaders committed to pushing the envelope of knowledge in wood products, paper and science engineering and forest biomaterials. Our faculty frequently partner with industry leaders or other organizations to address cutting edge scientific and technical issues as well as the broader environmental and financial concerns affecting these global sectors. As a graduate student, you become a valued member of this community, pursue your original interests beside top researchers in your field, enjoy state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and have the chance to build a well-balanced life, thanks to the many living options and leisure opportunities that NC State University offers its graduate students.

Advanced Degree Options

There are four advanced degree options available through WPS, including a 100% distance-based Masters program for industry professionals with at least one year of relevant industry experience, a non-thesis, professional degree program for students whose primary interests do not include research and a PhD track that includes an option in Forest Biomaterials.

A Supportive Professional Community
