John Heitmann

Dr. John A. Heitmann, Jr. is a Professor and specialist in papermaking science.  His research interests center around biotechnological applications to papermaking processes such as enzymatic modifications to cellulosic fibers for drainage control, refining power reduction and tissue softness. His other interests also include biomaterials/bioenergy, wet end chemistry, recycled fibers and other aspects of papermaking. He teaches WPS 472, Papermaking Process Analysis and WPS 577, Printing and Paper Coating. 

Dr. Heitmann was selected as an Outstanding Teacher in 1994 and as a Distinguished Alumni Undergraduate Professor for NC State University in 2003.
