Barbara Ann White

Barbara Ann White is the Research Operations Manager for the Department of Wood & Paper Science.  She is responsible for the management of the multi-million dollar analytical laboratories which are used in support of approximately 13 research projects conducted by professors, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students.

Before arriving at NC State in 2005, she spent the previous 13 years at USDA, ARS, Appalachian Farming Systems Research Center in Beaver, West Virginia, where she worked in the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory and eventually served as its manager. While at USDA, she worked with research scientists to develop analytical methods using inductively-coupled argon plasma and atomic absorption spectroscopy as well as microwave digestion procedures for plant, soil, natural waters, fertilizers, and coal combustion by-product research. In addition, White conducted analysis using elemental analyzers, HPLC, segmented flow autoanalyzer, and UV-VIS spectroscopy.

She also has experience in biomedical research in the development of radioimmunometric and immunoluminometric assays for neuroendrocrinology research at the Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, West Virginia.

White received a B.S. degree in Zoology/Pre-Medicine with minors in Chemistry, Psychology, and Classical Studies from Marshall University. She is a member of the American Association of University Women, Analytical Laboratory Managers Association, Triangle Chromatography Discussion Group, and the Celebrate Women Hall of Fame in the Math and Science Category for the State of West Virginia.
