The Department of Wood & Paper Science (WPS) at NC State includes a full-time faculty of 23 professionals, most of them engaged in both original research and in our teaching activities. Some of our programs also call on faculty from the College of Engineering at NC State or other departments within the College of Natural Resources. In addition, WPS includes many valued administrative and support specialists as well as extension experts who disseminate NC State’s knowledge to industry professionals, communities and the public. All WPS faculty and staff members are committed to using hands-on learning and inquiry-driven instruction to expose students to the principles and practical issues relevant to their fields.

The WPS teaching faculty includes experts in such areas as wood science, wood products processing, wood pulping, bleaching chemistry, paper physics and papermaking, chemical and process engineering, materials science, industrial processing technology, engineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology, recycling, paper mill operations, process control, printing, bioprocess engineering, biofuels, biopulping, business management, marketing and more.
