Learn More about Wood and Paper Science

The Department of Wood and Paper Science at NC State University has a variety of ways to provide you with more information. Carrie Hanayik, our Coordinator of Recruiting, can assist you. Please call her at 919-515-7709 or e-mail her at carrie_hanayik@ncsu.edu.

For FUTURE STUDENTS and PARENTS:
Please come visit our program at NC State! Call Carrie to make an appointment. She can assist you with directions and maps. Typically, prospective students talk with faculty members and then take a tour of our building and Robertson Pulp and Paper Lab, which houses a miniature paper machine or Hodges Wood Products Lab, which houses production size woodworking equipment. If your schedule allows, you can take a tour of NC State's campus before or after visiting the department. The NC State tour leaves from Talley Student Center at 12:30 pm and 3:15 pm Monday - Friday.

For TEACHERS and COUNSELORS:
School/Class Visits – Wood and Paper faculty can make a presentation and conduct laboratory experiments in upper-level high school science and math classes or in a community college science or math class. Paper Science & Engineering and Wood Products are especially suited for students who are interested in math and science and who enjoy a combination of classroom and laboratory learning.

Class Fieldtrip
We would like to invite interested chemistry or AP chemistry teachers to bring a group of students (up to 30) to visit NC State’s Paper Science and Engineering program. Students will interact with professors and complete laboratory exercises relating to chemistry, recycling, and papermaking.
We would like to invite upper-level math and/or science teachers to visit our Wood Products program. Students will also interact with professors and complete laboratory exercises relating to physics and chemistry of wood.
Typically, a visit consists of a presentation by a faculty member, students rotating through two or three laboratory exercises, and then lunch. Therefore, these visits typically last half a day beginning around 8:30 am.
