He earned his B.S. degree in Pulp and Paper Science from NC State in 1978 and his JD from Washington and Lee University in 1981.

Hunter Jenkins, Richmond, VA
Mr. Hunter, Managing Director, The Forestland Group, LLC. , is one of two senior executives of the nation’s largest hardwood landowner, and holds a B. A. from the University of Virginia and an M.S. in Management from North Carolina State University, with a focus in forest economics and timberland investments. He is a member of numerous conservation organizations and has served on the boards of various non-profit institutions.

Dick Ludington, Chapel Hill, NC
Senior Associate, The Conservation Fund, Retired. Mr. Ludington was the founder of the Heartland Group, the predecessor entity of the Forestland Group where he served as Vice President of Real Estate. Dick also served as the southeast regional director of land acquisitions for the Nature Conservancy and later became the Florida state director of the Nature Conservancy. As a Senior Associate of The Conservation Fund, he successfully negotiated the purchase and subsequent donation of 104,000-acres of prime wetland and wildlife habitat that created the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in eastern North Carolina. Dick is also Founder of La Foresta Plantacion, and Chair of Carbon Ceramics Company, LLC. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Latin American History and LLB from the School of Law, both from UNC Chapel Hill.
Barbara McCutchan, Covington, VA
Dr. McCutchan received her Ph.D. in Forestry and Statistics from NC State University, her M.S. in Forestry, NCSU and B.S. in Forestry from the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently teaching strategic sustainability in Arizona State University’s Master of Sustainability leadership program and consulting in several capacities at Sustainable & Responsible Solutions, LLC. Previously Dr. McCutchan was Director, Enterprise Stewardship and Sustainability for MeadWestvaco Corporation and a scientist with research areas in the genetics of loblolly pine for the purpose of increasing forest productivity in southeastern US and Brazil.

Mary holds both an undergraduate and graduate degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before joining NC State, Mary was a Managing Director at Standard & Poor’s in New York, and Senior Analytical Leader of the US Higher Education and Not-for-Profit Corporate Ratings Group. Mary spent nearly 25 years at S&P, and became a widely known analyst in the field of higher education finance.

Assistant Dean for Advancement, College of Natural Resources, NC State University.Lara came to us after serving as Assistant Dean for External Relations in the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland, College Park. Over the last ten years, she successfully led strategic planning for the school’s capital campaign, strengthened its communications, and tripled giving to the School’s strategic initiative including fellowships for PhD and Masters students. She earned her B.A. from Bryn Mawr College in PA, and her MIE from SDS Bocconi School in Milan, Italy.

Mary came to North Carolina State University after spending 22 years in the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont, as Professor, and from 2009-2012, as Dean. She holds a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a B.S. in Marine Science from the University of South Carolina.
