The Citizen-Soldier Support Program (CSSP) is a national demonstration program initiated and coordinated by the Jordan Institute for Families at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The CSSP is a community-based effort designed to strengthen support for North Carolina National Guard and Reserve families by building and reinforcing the capacity of civilian agencies, systems, and resources to better serve them. These agencies, systems, and resources include school personnel and systems, child care and after school support, youth services, faith community support systems, public libraries, recreation and park services, employers and employer organizations, cooperative extension services, city and county civic leadership, nonprofit agencies and services, voluntary organizations, and medical personnel and services. As part of the CSSP, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at North Carolina State University will work with the CSSP Citizen-Soldier Community Liaisons (CSCLs) and others to: 1. Increase North Carolina citizen-soldier family awareness of the opportunities and benefits of recreation and park participation; 2. Educate state and local recreation and park professionals in North Carolina about the unique needs of citizen-soldier families; and 3. Establish a working connection between North Carolina recreation and park professionals and local CSCLs.
