Iconic and Historic
So everyone knows about the iconic and historic Savannah, Georgia. There is always a movie being filmed, a book being written, or a celebrity spotting in the area (Zac Efron and The Rock are there right now!) There is delicious food, and don’t forget about Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and the other six colleges. But what most people forget is how industrious this area is.
Five Mills in 60 Miles
Take a drive down to the west end of Bay Street, and you will find Great Dane Trailer Company, Arizona Chemical, Solenis Chemical Company, the Georgia Ports Authority, and Gulfstream just to name a few of the major manufacturing companies. Let’s not forget all the paper companies; in a 60-mile radius, there are five paper mills! Georgia-Pacific has a seven machine tissue mill in Rincon, a gypsum board mill in Savannah, and a cellulose mill in Brunswick, plus the other 16 facilities that span across the state. International Paper, the largest pulp and paper company in the world, has a mill in Savannah that makes the liner board on three machines, and has eight other locations throughout Georgia. National Gypsum has a plant in Savannah and Weyerhaeuser has a cellulose fiber mill in Port Wentworth.
As the Savannah population continues to grow, so does the demand for educated papermakers. There are plenty of opportunities to work for these sought after companies in Savannah, Georgia so why not get your foot in the door at one of these four companies, in one of the best cities on the East Coast!
