Extension, Engagement & Economic Development
The Department of Forest Biomaterials (FB) is pleased to play a key role in fulfilling NC State University’s land grant responsibilities. Our extension mission is to work for economic prosperity, environmental stewardship and an improved quality of life for all North Carolinians. We fulfill our mission by sponsoring or participating in on-going outreach and extension activities that support North Carolina’s economy and its industries and communities including a renowned Wood Products Extension Program and numerous industry and community outreach initiatives. The department is recognized as a leader in pulp and paper short courses. Through these and other activities, we educate citizens of all ages on wood products, paper science and forest biomaterials.
The department develops technology and has produced several patents and have spurred start-up companies. Department research generates many peer reviewed journal articles and technical conference presentations each year. The department leads industry consortia for common, critical needs for the forest products industry.
