Pursue a Master’s degree – or just take courses in wood products, paper science, and forest biomaterials – without having to go to campus!

The Department of Forest Biomaterials at N.C. State delivers a unique distance-based educational program that allows industry professionals to pursue Master’s degrees or individual courses in a variety of areas. This program has served students from around the world since 1999. More details are given in our student manual (PDF file).

The courses in our distance education program are designed and taught by regular N.C. State faculty. Lectures are captured, digitized, and delivered to you online and by DVD, and are enhanced by various interactive, Internet-based learning applications. This means you do not have to leave your job, or even visit the campus to earn a Master’s of Forest Biomaterials degree or take individual courses on the program. You can access course resources any time of day or night, making it possible to fit studying into a wide variety of busy lifestyles and time zones.

The online courses are the same as the on-campus courses in content, quality, and academic rigor and maintain a high level of communication between student and instructors via the web, e-mail, and phone conversations.

Our Distance Masters of Forest Biomaterials is designed for individuals who are professionally employed and have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in the pulp and paper, wood products or allied industries (i.e., chemical or equipment suppliers for wood and paper products). We also welcome students who just want to take a specific course from our online education curriculum.
