Careers in Sustainable Materials and Technology are exciting and rewarding. There is increasing demand for sustainable biomaterials, and tremendous opportunity for professionals to help with the design, engineering, manufacturing, and sales of these new materials and products. Where Would I Work?

Employers include traditional forest products industries, design and engineering firms, non-governmental organizations and small entrepreneurial firms.

Job locations are available both globally and across the US in large metropolitan centers and in rural communities.

Are There Jobs?

Nationwide the industry employs over 200 million people. Graduates of the Sustainable Materials and Technology curriculum typically enjoy more than one job offer and enter the industry as management trainees, sales trainees, process engineers or in quality assurance. Regardless of industry conditions or the current state of the economy, graduates enjoy careers with companies who’ve had longstanding, strong relationships with the NC State SMT program.

What Would I Earn?

Graduates of the Sustainable Materials and Technology program earn $32,000 to $60,000 per year, with an average starting salary of $47,000. Graduates usually see a rapid rise in salary as they acquire experience and advance into more responsible positions.
