TAPPI Student Chapter Keeps PSE Comradery Alive

First of many…TAPPI General Body Meeting

Although this spring semester is still partially virtual, the TAPPI Student Chapter is still staying active, as best as it can, trying to provide a similar experience to previous semesters by keeping members engaged and preserving the PSE comradery.  TAPPI kicked off the spring 2021 semester with a General Body Meeting and Social Hour. During the meeting, over 70 members joined a Zoom call to learn about the events planned for the upcoming semester. Just like in previous semesters, TAPPI will be organizing Pre-Nights, and the first one was hosted by Graphic Packaging. Along with Pre-Nights, there will also be weekly Social Events for PSE students to connect as well as some larger events such as the PPAB Gala on March 25 and Golf Fundraiser Tournament scheduled for April 30, 2021. In Dr. Byrd fashion, he made an appearance to get students excited about the virtual TAPPI Student Summit. The last piece of business covered was last Fall’s attendance raffle winner – Johnny Brain, a freshman who happened to be present at the right event, won the raffle of $50.

From Meeting to Quiplash…the fun connection continued

After the General Body Meeting ended, students stayed online for the first social event of the season – a Quiplash game, which is like an online “Apples to Apples”. During the game, I was able to connect  with Ian Seidel, a freshman; Maggie Lawler, a sophomore; Kyra Attridge, a junior; Tyler Barlow, a senior; and Aidan Stewart, a transfer student who has not yet been on campus stuck around to play and talk . We talked about campus housing, the difficulties of online lecture, and past and future work experiences. After a couple rounds of Quiplash it was time for students to sign off for dinner or schoolwork, but it was a great feeling knowing that there would be a space to connect with PSE students each week – even if we are distanced and virtual.
