Meet Future Student – Killian Smith

Killian Smith

Hometown:

  • Nashville, NC

What school will you graduate from:

  • Nash Community College

What is your Intended Major:

  • Paper Science and Engineering & Chemical Engineering

Why did you Choose NC State:

  • I chose NC State because it is a top-notch engineering school and the College of Natural Resources because I want to leave a better, cleaner world behind me, which the College of Natural Resources will help me to do.

What activities did you participate in during high school? What was you favorite and why?

  • I participated in a ton of clubs, but my favorite was the Nash Community College Dungeons and Dragons Club, where I served as the Vice President, because I met a number of my friends and I rekindled an interest in D&D and Magic: The Gathering.

What are you most excited about as you head to NC State?

  • I am looking forward to experiencing campus life and all of the wonderful opportunities NC State has to offer.

What are you most nervous about as you head to NC State?

  • I have no sense of navigation, so finding my way around the NC State campus should be interesting.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

  • I am both literally and figuratively a huge nerd, as I am 6’10” and have been playing Dungeons and Dragons for 10-12 years. I also love to write essays.

What is your favorite quote?

  • “Hindsight, I think, is a useless tool. We, each of us, are at a place in our lives because of innumerable circumstances, and we, each of us, have a responsibility (if we do not like where we are) to move along life’s road, to find a better path if this one does not suit, or to walk happily along this one if it is indeed our life’s way. Changing even the bad things that have gone before would fundamentally change who we are, and whether or not that would be a good thing, I believe, it is impossible to predict. So I take my past experiences… and try to regret nothing.” -Drizzt Do’urden, R.A. Salvatore, Sea of Swords
