Why did you choose Paper Science and Engineering (PSE)?

  • I chose PSE because of the extremely supportive community and many opportunities that are available. Both faculty and peers are amazing supporters and resources for both professional development and helping me pursue my personal interests as well!

What is your favorite thing about Paper Science and Engineering?

  • My favorite thing about PSE are the connections made within the program and with alumni. I love being able to network and bond over shared experiences and similar interests.

What is your favorite thing about NC State?

  • It’s hard to choose one thing! I absolutely love the NC State community and how supportive the Wolf Pack is of each other. And also HOWLING COW of course (Campfire Delight is my go-to).

What advice would you offer to an incoming freshman?

  • Don’t be afraid to mess up and don’t be discouraged when things don’t go as planned. It’s important to stick with your goals but learn how to adapt to situations that can arise, you must be swift as a coursing river and be flexible to overcome what comes your way.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

  • I really enjoy crafting, solving all sorts of puzzles and riddles, and working with my hands! I am also (slowly) learning how to roller skate.

What has been your greatest challenge?

  • My greatest challenge is being able to work towards a healthy balance of prioritizing academics, mental health, personal health, and having a social life all at the same time. It is extremely important to succeed in all aspects but can be difficult when things happen unexpectedly and can mess up your flow. Thankfully there are many resources like the Counseling Center, tutors, and campus activities that have helped me through it!

What is your favorite extra-circular activity?

  • Going to group fitness classes at the Rec Center is always fun because I’m able to try out various classes of different activities that I would not normally do on my own like Dance HIIT and cycle classes. It’s also a great way to destress and get some exercise at the same time!

What is the biggest obstacle you have faced thus far?

  • The Pandemic has definitely made it difficult to access the resources and do the activities that we used to be able to do on campus/in our college lives. With the drastic changes to learning environment and in the way we go about in our lives it’s been hard to adapt. I am grateful to have a great support group that makes figuring this all out more bearable!
