Student Advisory Committee

The Pulp and Paper Student Advisory Committee (SAC) consists of a group of Paper Science & Engineering students and faithful faculty members who share a passion for the Paper Science & Engineering (PSE) program. The students serve a critical role within this committee and are recruited because of their commitment to the PSE program, their interest in sharing the opportunities made available by PSE, and the positive benefits of the program. The students are essential in the success of this committee.

What We Do

The SAC serves a simple yet essential function in that it promotes PSE program awareness from the perspective of students through writing articles that are posted on the Forest Biomaterial webpage and the PSE Facebook page, and are also included in a newsletter that is sent out to donors and alumni. The PSE program has outstanding events throughout the year from the 1st year student retreat, TAPPI Student Summit, annual Pulp and Paper Banquet, student TAPPI chapter social events, pre-nights, and so much more! These events are unique to this program and the best way to hear about them is through the eyes of students who were impacted by or involved in them. That is this committee’s primary purpose!

Impact on the PSE Program

The SAC is essential in sharing the opportunities made available in the PSE program through the perspective of students. It is absolutely necessary that prospective students and parents looking to join the PSE family read about all the great events and the impact they have from PSE students themselves. Without articles written by this committee there would be no student voice for others to read and gain awareness from.

Also, another crucial aspect is showing the program’s generous donors the great things that we continue to do and how their contributions touch the lives of students. Articles written by students are included in a quarterly newsletter that is sent to donors and alumni. The alumni and donors want to read about what the PSE program is doing and the best outlet for this is from the students themselves.

The Pulp and Paper SAC serves an essential function within the PSE program and takes only a small time commitment from its members. If you are a student interested in joining the committee and helping give back to the program that does so much for you, please contact Paula Harrod at pmharrod@ncsu.edu.
