PPAB Student Advisory Committee Hosts Second Annual Patio Party

By: Sara Gregory ’27

The Pulp and Paper Advisory Board (PPAB) Student Advisory Committee recently hosted its Second Annual Patio Party, a social networking event for all Paper Science and Engineering (PSE) undergraduates and Forest Biomaterials graduate students. The gathering offered an afternoon of good food, conversation, and community building among students, faculty, and alumni.

Students enjoyed a hot meal while meeting new classmates and reconnecting with peers. The relaxed, welcoming atmosphere encouraged interaction across class years and programs, helping to strengthen the sense of community that defines both the PSE and Forest Biomaterials programs.

Attendees played bingo and cornhole throughout the afternoon, which added a lively and engaging touch. This created a fun and memorable environment for everyone involved. For many, it was a much-needed opportunity to unwind and connect outside of classrooms and laboratories.

The Patio Party also welcomed recent alumni, who returned to campus to participate in the event and share their experiences beyond graduation. Their presence provided valuable opportunities for current students to network and gain insights into career paths and professional development within the pulp, paper, and biomaterials industries.

Events like this one exemplify the department’s commitment to fostering connection and collaboration among its students and alumni. By combining social engagement with opportunities for mentorship and networking, the PPAB Student Advisory Committee helps ensure that students not only excel academically but also thrive as members of a supportive professional community.

The department extends its sincere thanks to the Pulp and Paper Advisory Board for its continued support of student programs and to the Student Advisory Committee members for their exceptional planning and coordination. Their hard work and dedication ensured the event’s smooth execution and contributed greatly to its success.

With a great turnout, delicious food, and an atmosphere full of enthusiasm, the Second Annual Patio Party was a wonderful success. Students, alumni, and faculty alike look forward to continuing this growing tradition in the years to come.
