Update #5, August 29, 2016

Coming into the home stretch!  We made a slight calculation error on update #4 and, at that time, had 30 classes participating (not 39).  As of this morning, we have 35, which ties last year!  CAN WE BEAT IT?

The class ambassadors think we can!

THREE MORE FULL DAYS TO ACT!

Update #4, August 25, 2016

The Class of 2016 is holding strong in the lead with 46.9% pledging and we got the class of 1968 over the 20% participation mark.  The next 4 classes (’86, ’15, ’14 and ’67) only need ONE MORE PLEDGE to get over 20%!  Currently we have 39 classes on the leaderboard, which is more than we finished with last year!  WOW!  We have ONE MORE WEEK to add 7 more classes to our leaderboard and result in 75% of our classes taking part.  If 21 more participants join our competition, we will exceed last year’s participation.  WE CAN DO IT!

Update #3, August 18, 2016

After 17 full days, we have 27 total classes participating (59% increase from this time last year) and a 40% increase in the number of participants since last week’s update.  GREAT JOB!  Our goal for next week is to have 6 classes jump the 20% participation line.  Last year at this time we already had 3 classes over that line.  Thanks to all of our ambassadors who are working hard to reconnect everyone.  Check out our LEADERBOARD below, Class of 2016 still in the lead – who will take over????

The first day of classes was yesterday!  Check out our Facebook page for class selfie’s!

2016 graduates

Katie Marshall, Jason Frizzell and Lauren Moody are all a part of Class of 2016’s campaign’s success!

Weekly Highlight: Lauren Moody, Class of 2016 – current leaders in our contest – has this to say about giving, “Giving as a young alumnus is a great opportunity for you to show your support early on. It also allows you to stay in touch with the program, which can provide many opportunities even after you graduate.  As students, we received many opportunities based on the generosity of other alumni’s time, energy and donations.  Staying connected and giving back to afford future students the same unique experience is rewarding.”

Update #2, August 11, 2016

After 10 full days, we have 20 total classes participating (82% increase since 8/5/16) and a 55% increase in the number or individual participants.  This is VERY exciting.

Weekly Highlight: John McClendon, Class of 1966 and incredible giver or time and effort to our foundation over the years has this to say about his experiences:

“Having come from a small town in Louisiana and a family with very limited resources, I would never have been able to attend North Carolina State College were it not for the Paper Foundation Scholarship. From Gaylord Container Corp. in Bogalusa, La., to Betz and Callaway Chemical and finally Olympic Chemical Co. in 2002, I worked for over 42 years in the paper industry, and can truthfully say, “I loved it!”

John McClendon and Peyton Holste

John McClendon (’66) enjoys time at a recent foundation meeting with his grandson, Peyton Holste, Class of 2018After I returned to Raleigh in 1972 (maybe to be near Carter Finley Stadium), I sought out the opportunity to “give back to the program” by serving on the Student Recruitment/Scholarship Committees.

In 1992, I was challenged by Ray Smith, who was then Executive Director of the Foundation , to lead an effort to establish and endow class scholarships…..and I am proud that the Class of 1966 Scholarship was endowed in 1993.

In order to maintain the excellence of both our program and our students, I challenge you “as an PPT alumnus” to consider an annual gift to the Foundation, i.e. match a Class Challenge gift, establish/endow a scholarship in honor of your class, etc. I imagine there are many outstanding students who might not be able to attend college, unless someone gives. You never know who it might help!!”

Update #1, August 5, 2016

Updating before one full week since our progress is already at 26% of last year’s total individual gifting or pledging!  What an amazing group!

The challenging class (2016) is in the lead after week one.  We do have participation already from 11 different classes!  See the LEADERBOARD below!

Weekly highlight: Senior in PSE/CHE, Bobby Oglesby was asked to speak at a scholarship luncheon.  Watch a shortened clip to see what his award means to him and how he will use it in the future.

 How Does This Work?

The bottom line is the class with the most (% participation) gifts or pledges logged in the month of August will be the GRAND CHAMPION!  The Class of 2016 is at 41% from their senior banquet kick off!

What do you need to do?

Make a gift or a pledge from August 1-31, 2016.  For online gifts, choose “Paper Science Scholarships” from the drop down menu.

NEW GIVERS:

You can give now or pledge an amount to be given at any time over the coming year.

CURRENT / RECURRING GIVERS:

Do you already give on a monthly recurring basis via credit card or payroll deduction?  Then you DO NOTHING!  Check our weekly updates and encourage classmates.

Do you currently give, just NOT in August?  To be counted, fill out the pledge form with your intentions so we can capture and count them!  We are always sensitive to the fact that our donors have many charitable options and only want to count what you intend to do this academic year.  This includes alumni who give annually or quarterly, even if through your company – please fill out the form!

If you currently have a pledge in the University system, please fill out our form so we (PSE) know your intentions.  We will not be pulling active pledge reports from the University Wide System.
