At the Spring Business Meeting 2015 in Savannah Georgia for the Southern Division of the American Fisheries Society Conference, NCSU SFS was awarded the Outstanding Student Subunit Award. This is the 9th year since 2002 that the student organization has taken this award home.   The club constantly works on organizing undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty from NCSU and neighboring universities as well as professionals in fisheries around the state for education and conservation efforts. NCSU SFS hosts regular club meetings with guest speakers and they plan several annual volunteering/outreach events and persistently plan additional new events for our community. Some of these events include Shad In The Classroom, judging student science fairs, volunteering for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s Hunting and Fishing Day, as well as stream and park clean ups. We work hard to provide students at all levels with the opportunities to prepare for careers in fisheries related fields or to act as responsible conservationists in daily life and help inspire others to learn and act with aquatic resources in mind. The student organization just applied for the National Outstanding Student Subunit Award and we will keep everyone posted on the outcome!!
