We are proud to announce and celebrate Dr. Lara Pacifici as the New Faculty Advisor winner of the 2015-2016 Undergraduate Academic Advising Award. She was presented the award February 9 at a ceremony at Witherspoon Student Center. The award recognizes outstanding qualities and leadership in student advising. She was nominated and supported by fellow faculty and student advisees.
Dr. Pacifici is an advisor, professor and friend for each of the 180 FWCB undergraduates beginning from when they are high school students visiting NC State during Open House weekend to their graduation ceremony. Simply put, Dr. Pacifici is the heart and soul of the FWCB program. As the instructor of four courses in the FWCB curriculum, two of which are required, and as co-advisor of the Leopold Wildlife Club, Lara gets to know all of the students in the major on both a personal and academic level. In doing so, she learns each student’s interests and abilities, which help her in guiding students to successful pursuits during and after their undergraduate career.
Dr. Chris Moorman shared, “Since she begin in the faculty position 2 years ago, Lara has dramatically improved the engagement between faculty and students, the communication among students, and the connections to the employers that provide jobs to those students.”
Her most notable implementation is student/group-centered advising. Many of the FWCB faculty members were leery of this approach, but Dr. Pacifici skillfully developed small group advising sessions that are far more effective and efficient than one-on-one advising. This approach empowers the students and builds espirt de corp.
Congratulations Dr. Pacifici!
