Forestry Students Compete at Conclave 2016

conclave 2016 2The NC State Forestry Club traveled to Clemson, SC for the 59th Annual Association of Southern Forestry Clubs Conclave with 22 competitors and our adviser Dr. Joe Roise. We placed 3rd overall out of 15 competing schools, and placed 2nd overall in the Technical Events. This was a great achievement for our club as we have worked very hard this year to get to that point and was only made possible by the dedication and abilities of every member of the club.

We had many top three finishes including Timber Estimation, Dendrology, Photo-grammetry, Wood ID, Women’s bow saw, Log roll, Jack and Jill Crosscut, and Men’s Crosscut. The club was well represented by Zack Davis with a second place finish in the Stihl Timbersports Southern Collegiate Qualifier which was hosted in conjunction with Conclave.

We appreciate the support of the faculty and staff within the department as well as the support from our sponsors this year, Enviva Biomass, Gregory Poole Caterpillar, Liberty Woodyard, and Stihl. Planning for conclave next year has already begun as the club prepares for the long trip to Stephen F. Austin in Texas.
