Ginger Deason was an agroforestry volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Guatemala from 1995 to 1997. She worked in a rural village helping farmers with improved agricultural techniques and helping women’s groups in home gardening and use of medicinal plants. Ginger graduated with a Master of Natural Resources in May of 2000, after completing a project on non-timber forest products in Belize and is now finishing up her PhD in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism focusing on climate change and sustainable tourism in several indigenous communities in the mountains of southern Mexico. Ginger currently works as the Foundation Representative for Ecuador and Panama at the Inter-American Foundation in Washington, DC.
