Congratulations Christian Ensley, a soon-to-be Forest Management major! He is the second recipient of The Dale Earnhardt Foundation’s CONNECT scholarship. This scholarship covers the cost of a student’s summer in the CONNECT program. Thank you to the Dale Earnhardt Foundation for supporting this wonderful opportunity for students to have an alternate path to pursuing these fields in natural resources!
“The experiences of being outdoors as I grew up helped make my decision to pursue a career where I could be outside. It also helped drive me to continue my education where I could focus on my love for nature. Eventually, I want to get a job where I can help preserve nature and the environment for the upcoming generations to enjoy.
Growing up in the mountains of western North Carolina, and managing my own property and helping my neighbors do the same, really inspired me. Throughout high school, I was a member of the FFA and competed in our school’s forestry competition and other outdoor events. I will always have fond memories of just being outside, away from everything and everyone, but I will never forget my summer on NC State’s campus with the CONNECT program. We traveled across the state doing field experiences with the group. I also really enjoyed just going to Fountain Dining Hall with the group to hang out and get a bite to eat before going back to the residence hallss to do homework.
I am looking forward to coming back to NC State next year to finish my education and continue the great memories I have created here thanks to the support of the CONNECT program and the Dale Earnhardt Foundation. I would like to thank them for making it possible for me to experience this amazing campus and the amazing people I met while I was here.”
