External Learning Experiences
An external learning experience may be an internship, research experience, professional development activity, or a written thesis for which you will receive 3 credit-hours for completing 150 hours of work. This required experience is an integral part of your education in Environmental Sciences and should be pursued diligently and intentionally. All experiences are the responsibility of the student to secure.
Proposal submission is required for course registration.

- ES 498 – Research Proposal
- ES 499 – Thesis Proposal
The focal area is the most significant and unique aspect of Environmental Sciences program and will define you as an Environmental Scientist. Work closely with your Academic Advisor to propose your Focal Area in Environmental Sciences by the start of your junior year.
The Focal Area Declaration Form is required for courses to count toward focal area.
