{"id":13280,"date":"2017-07-26T11:39:26","date_gmt":"2017-07-26T15:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/?page_id=13280"},"modified":"2025-04-06T22:09:26","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T02:09:26","slug":"forest-health","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/research\/forest-health\/","title":{"rendered":"Forest Health"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cnr.ncsu.edu\/fer\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/19\/2017\/07\/forest_health.jpg\" alt=\"forest\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Healthy Forests for a Sustainable Future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since <strong>forest health is inherently interdisciplinary<\/strong>, our faculty synergistically collaborate with experts across NC State, bringing our expertise in ecology, genetics, breeding, biotechnology, geospatial analytics, genomics, global environmental change science, plant physiology, fisheries and wildlife, economics and human dimensions to the innovative research table<b>.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the past 15 years more than <strong>100 million hectares of forests worldwide were severely damaged<\/strong> by insects and diseases that significantly impact growth, productivity, biodiversity, ecological stability and ecosystem services.\u00a0Forests, damaged by pests and other diseases, impacts both natural and urban ecosystems.\u00a0Threats to forest health exist not only from native pests, which aided by environmental change are expanding into new environments, attacking novel hosts and entering unprecedented epidemic phases, but also from the <strong>unintentional spread of non-native insects and pathogens<\/strong> accelerated by globalization.
